"Well, I took the remote out of the box, put batteries in, read the instructions, and the remote quit working. The LCD screen went blank. I tried new batteries but didn't help. Put batteries back in and out and the LCD went on and then started flashing. Need to return, but now am skeptical. Also the remote doesn't have a hinge on the cover, so you will have to take the cover off, set the time you want the fireplace on, and put the cover back on. Not easy to take off, as it snaps on pretty solidly. After more time let me explain the the cover issue ended up much better than I thought. One I had in the past had a hinge to remove cover, but this one has a nice slide down option that is even better to uncover some of the buttons. My wife figured that out. Also when I called about a replacement or exchange they sent me to the manufacturer who then sent me back to them and in the end the replaced the remote right away with no hassle. Very pleased with the company, the remote so far and the experience of resolving the initial problem with the remote."
